the Unshakable Woman

This past weekend I had to opportunity to attend and lead worship at the Annual

Reflections Women’s Conference held at Lake Yale Convention Center in Leesburg,

where Jennifer Rothschild was the main speaker. After sharing her testimony of

becoming blind at age 15 she challenged us with the statement: “What Shakes Us Ins’t

Meant to Break Us. It Shapes Us”. She went on to teach us about some practices we can

implement.


The 4 Practices of the Unshakable Woman

Imagine a table with 4 legs


1) She Guards Her Heart: Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else guard your heart for

everything you do flows from it.” For many women we are professional feelers and too

often we allow the emotional leg of the table to the weight bearing leg. It’s important to

ask God to guard the door of our hearts so we can be mindful of what we are feeling and

not let our emotions take over.


2) She Glorifies God With Her Body: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Do you not know your

bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you received from God?

You are not your own you were bought with a price. Therefore honor God with your

bodies.” We should value our bodies as God does. We may have different appearances

but God doesn’t want us to dislike our bodes because we have more or less of something.

Being mindful of what we eat, giving value to sleep in stead of staying up late, and

strengthening our bodies with exercises to improve mood and our ability to move and

serve the body of Christ. This is the physical leg of the table.


3) She Engages Her Mind: This is the intellectual leg of the table. Philippians 4:8

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right,

whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or

praiseworthy—think about such things.” It’s important that we put what we see and

listen to through the 4:8 filter. The shows we watch, books we read, how much time we

spend on Face Book or other social media. And don’t forget to engage your mind with

the word of God.


4) She Takes Care of Her Soul: Psalm 2:5-6 “Yes, my soul, finds rest in God, my hope

comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be

shaken.” The spiritual leg is the most important and without feeding our soul we will be

shaky. We are made for spiritual connection with God. We will feel restless until we find

rest in God.
