The task force presented the recommendation to the Session, and this recommendation was debated and discussed and was made into a motion that will be presented to the FPCE Congregation on February 19th at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall. Please know that under the bylaws of the Congregation, a quorum of the congregation is 25 active members and that voting by proxy is NOT allowed. There will be an attendance sheet, and a roll call and the moderator will establish the vote of the Congregation by (name) ballot.
The motion as recommended by the task force is as follows:
SESSION RECOMMENDS TO THE CONGREGATION, AT THE CONGREGATION'S NEXT SCHEDULED MEETING, THAT THE CONGREGATION AGREE TO SELL THE COTTAGE AS SOON AS A SUITABLE BUYER CAN BE IDENTIFIED.
A bit of background...
On November 25th, during the Session Meeting, it was decided to establish a Cottage Task Force. This task force's goal is to propose an initial course of action for discussion within the Session, and ultimately to present it to the congregation of the First Presbyterian Church of Eustis.
At the time the task force was formed, the "AA" groups (Morning and Evening) that had been using the cottage had ceased meeting there and permanently relocated to the St. Thomas Episcopal Church campus in Eustis. This move was due to several other "AA" groups already meeting at that location.
In the fall of 2024, the "AA" groups had met with the Church's Mission Committee and jointly concluded that there was significant deferred maintenance needed for the cottage if it were to continue being used by the church. Unfortunately, the church was not in a financial position to afford these maintenance costs at that time.
The main objective of the task force was to provide the Session with recommendations regarding the future of the Cottage. If the recommendation is to sell the property, the task force also suggested potential uses for the proceeds from the sale.
On January 28th, the task force presented its findings and recommendations to the Session. Detailed information is provided in the attachments below for your review. The task force includes Chairperson Richard Paul (Church Finance Committee Liaison), Gary Harvison (Church Property Committee Liaison), Jeanne Thomas (Session Liaison), and members at large Elliot Owen and Rob Warren.
