Here's a recap of my sermon “More Than Motivated” from Romans 4:16-25:
In my sermon titled “More Than Motivated,” I focused on Romans 4:16-25, where we see that faith is what truly matters for righteousness before God, not merely following the law. I used Abraham as a key example. Despite facing what seemed like impossible circumstances—being nearly a hundred years old and his wife’s womb being dead—Abraham's unwavering faith in God's promise not only brought glory to God but also showed us what it means to have faith that doesn't waver, even when hope seems lost.
I challenged us to move beyond just being motivated. I compared our motivations to a cup—what we’re filled with will come out when we’re shaken or bumped by life. If we’re filled with superficial motivations or fears, that’s what will spill out. But if our motivation is rooted in Christ, it will sustain us through every trial. I encouraged everyone to find their deepest motivation in Christ, which is steadfast and enduring.
To continue exploring faith and motivation, consider these scriptures:
1. Hebrews 11:1 - "Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see."
2. James 2:17 - "So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless."
3. Philippians 4:13 - "For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength."
Questions for Further Consideration:
1. How can you cultivate a deeper, more enduring faith that goes beyond superficial motivations?
2. What are practical ways to trust in God's promises, especially when faced with doubt or uncertainty?
3. How does understanding the difference between legalistic adherence and faith-based righteousness impact my daily Christian living?
Life Application
This week, I encourage you to reflect on areas of your life where fear or worldly motivations have influenced your decisions. Commit to seeking deeper faith and trust in God's promises in those areas.
Key Elements to Remember and Share:
Faith vs. Law: Christianity emphasizes faith in God's promises over legalistic adherence to rules.
Abraham's Example: Abraham's faith in God's promises is a model for us.
Sustaining Motivation: True motivation comes from Christ, which can sustain us through life's challenges.
I hope these insights help you as much as they’ve helped me in my own journey of faith.
